About StoicQuotes.

Why another quote site? Because none of them do it right.

The problem with existing sites.

Quote aggregators on the internet are lazy: they copy-paste text with no attribution, no source, no context. You get "Marcus Aurelius" but no indication which of the twelve Meditations books, or worse, a quote that Marcus Aurelius never said at all. DailyStoic is an editorial site, not a database. Goodreads is a social network. BrainyQuote is an ad-dense archive from 2001.

What we do differently.

  • 01 Source attribution. Every quote cites the specific book, chapter, and section where it appears. No guesswork.
  • 02 Original commentary. Featured quotes include an 80–120 word contextual note connecting ancient thought to modern application.
  • 03 Thematic browsing. Browse by Stoic virtue, theme, or concept — not just by author.
  • 04 Fast and clean. No JavaScript frameworks, no trackers, no pop-up newsletters. Static HTML, instant load.

Affiliate disclosure.

StoicQuotes participates in the Amazon Associates program. Some links to books on this site are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you purchase through them — at no additional cost to you. We only link to books we'd recommend regardless of commission. Every linked book is the primary source of the quoted text.

Advertising.

This site runs Google AdSense display advertising. Ads are placed to minimize disruption to reading. We do not use pop-ups, autoplay video, or interstitials. If an ad seems inappropriate for the context, please contact us.
